Addiction Treatments

Addiction treatments from alternative medicine, especially alcohol and drug addiction. Can listening to tapes containing a binaural beat sound actually reprogram the addict's brain? Read on...

I'm reading a book called Thresholds of the Mind by Bill Harris. Your library can get it for you or you can buy it. I came across a way to kick alcohol addiction and want to share it with you. Note that the "alpha" and "theta wave" states mentioned below refer to certain brain wave patterns created by a variety of meditation techniques.

On page 165 of the book is the following information: "Alpha and theta states have been shown to facilitate addiction recovery. Dr. Eugene Peniston and Dr. Paul Kulkosky, of the University of Southern Colorado, trained a group of alcoholics to enter the alpha and theta brain wave states. These alcoholics showed a recovery rate many orders of magnitude greater than a control group. Thirteen months later, this alpha-theta group showed 'sustained prevention of relapse,' and these findings were confirmed in a follow-up study three years later.

In addition, this group showed a marked personality transformation, including significant increases in qualities such as warmth, stability, conscientiousness, boldness, imaginativeness and self control, along with decreases in depression and anxiety."

Always check with your doctor before trying anything you read here. Everyone is different, and what might be good for some people might be bad for you, considering your medical history and medications.

The original source on this is "Alpha-Theta Brainwave Training and Beta-endorphin Levels in Alcoholics," Alcoholism 13:271-79. 1989.

In addition, on page 198 of the book is the following testimonial about this addiction treatment from a former alcoholic:

In the months I have been faithfully listening to the CDs...I went from drinking alcohol for years as my favorite hobby, to not drinking at all...I had tried to quit drinking numerous times. After a month and a half of Centerpointe, I finally simply quit, and have no desire to drink at all even though I've recently gone through some very stressful times, which I easily handled...life has become beautiful for me, my wife, and my daughter. Thank you from the bottom of my spirit. --Ryan

The reason I'm reading this book that mentions addiction treatment is that I got it free along with my purchase of the first level of Holosync, a series of CDs that produce the brain wave states referred to in the article. Although I'm not an alcoholic, I have, after five weeks, experienced some of the positive changes promised by this easy, enjoyable program.

What they do is feed one tone into one ear and another tone into the other ear, which produces what is called a "binaural beat." It's this beat that reprograms the mind to have a higher threshold of tolerance for all that life throws at us. The tones that do the work are camouflaged by pleasant sounds of rain and chimes. This is a huge simplification. Either read the book or look at the Web site referenced below.

It's worth a look as an addiction treatment. Find out more about Holosync at www.centerpointe.com. No, this is not a clickable link, for several reasons, one of which is that I want you to know it is NOT an affiliate link, where I make money if you sign up, nor do I have any connection to the company. I paid $159 for the first level. I don't know what they are charging now. If this alternative treatment, this new addiction treatment works, it would be more than worth it, from what I've heard about addiction.
