Fibromyalgia Treatments

Discover a variety of fibromyalgia treatments from alternative medicine. Fibromyalgia information, pain relief, supplements, natural health treatments and remedies for fibromyalgia.

Natural Fibromyalgia Treatments
It has been discovered that many people suffering with the full body muscle pains of fibromyalgia can be helped with anticoagulant therapy for fibromyalgia pain relief. In fact, these people may benefit almost immediately upon taking anticoagulant drugs. But before you rush to your doctor to get a prescription for Coumadin or other blood thinner, read the following to understand what is behind this problem and how you can use a natural substance to eliminate the problem rather than just treat the symptoms.

To make a long, complex story shorter and simpler, if you are suffering from the pain of fibromyalgia, you may have a circulation problem. See, your body produces substances that cause your blood to clot, when you are cut, to stop the bleeding. Injury triggers the production of a clotting agent called thrombin, but so do bacteria, viruses and toxins, and sometimes your body just overdoes the thrombin. When thrombin is produced, that is the first step in the making of sticky protein fibers called fibrin. Fibrin makes your blood circulate slower and it forms a structure on which blood clots can form. When your blood slows down, the fibrin strands can stick to the walls of your arteries and make things even worse. In addition, bacteria can find a protected home under the fibrin.

The professional researcher/reporter who writes this site has no medical training. Always check with your doctor before trying anything you read here. Everyone is different, and what might be good for some people might be bad for you, considering your medical history and medications.

Now here comes your body to the rescue with an enzyme called plasmin, designed to bust up fibrin and blood clots. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't produce enough plasmin to solve their circulation/coagulation problems. A number of situations contribute to underproduction of clot-busting enzymes such as plasmin, including aging, sedentary lifestyle, toxins (agricultural and garden sprays, cleaners, contaminated food, air, water), low antioxidant consumption (Antioxidants are found in fruits and vegetables, or supplements.), poor diet, genetic factors, etc.

So in the problem situation, we have bacteria (or other invaders) protected from your immune system under a coating of fibrin. If these fibrin/bacteria deposits locate in your muscles, that can cause the constant pain of fibromyalgia.

Now, although blood thinners like Coumadin will temporarily let the blood flow better through these problem areas, what we really want is to remove those deposits, right? (Say "Right!")

Natural Health Fibromyalgia Treatments: Nattokinase
There are drugs that will dissolve clots and fibrin, but they are extremely expensive, and their effect lasts only a short time. There is a natural product, however, that lasts four to eight hours. It is an active enzyme called nattokinase, and it is a derivative of a traditional Japanese food called "natto," which is a fermented combination of soybeans and beneficial bacteria.

Those taking prescription blood thinners should not eat natto or take nattokinase.

Instead of taking this fibromyalgia supplement, you may want to take the whole food, natto, which contains the enzyme nattokinase. If you are willing to go through the process to make it yourself, you can find the recipe in the newsletter mentioned below.

Whew! You should have seen the much longer, more detailed version! The source for this fibromyalgia info is Alternatives newsletter, written by Dr. David Williams. If you want all the details, call 800-718-8293 and ask for Volume 9, Number 17 of the newsletter on "Strong Circulation: Cure for a Thousand Ills." It also goes into how anticoagulation therapy can help people with other serious diseases, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and, of course, cardiovascular and circulation problems.

Dr. Williams, a medical researcher, says that if you are at risk for stroke or heart attack, it would be a good idea to keep natto or a bottle of nattokinase on hand and take it at bedtime, since that gives you the greatest protection against strokes and heart attacks, which tend to happen within a few hours of getting up in the morning.

Fibromyalgia Treatments: Lecithin
Taking lecithin can also help prevent arterial blockages by lowering the melting point of cholesterol.

Fibromyalgia Treatments: Vitamin D
According to Michael Holick, M.D. of Boston University Medical Center, up to 60 percent of fibromyalgia patients are diagnosed incorrectly. Holick says they may actually have osteomalacia, bones softened by a loss of calcium due to a deficiency of Vitamin D. People with osteomalacia have symptoms similar to fibromyalgia--all-over pain with tenderness in certain areas. If you have chronic pain in many different areas of your body, you may want to talk to your doctor about a blood test to rule out a deficiency of Vitamin D.

By the way, it is hard to overdose on Vitamin D, according to Julian Whittaker, M.D. of the renowned Whittaker Wellness Clinic in Newport Beach, Calfornia. A random sample of patients in the Boston area showed Vitamin D deficiencies in more than 50 percent of those tested, including 43 percent of those who were consuming the RDA of Vitamin D.

"The human body is able to handle very high amounts of vitamin D without toxicity," says Whittaker. "According to the Washington-based Council for Responsible Nutrition, regular doses of 2000 IU have no known risk, and much higher does would have to be taken daily to produce toxicity. The safety concerns regarding Vitamin D are supported less by science than by knee-jerk biases against nutritional supplements."

My M.D. resources all say that the vitamin D3 is the form of vitamin D that is most beneficial. Ask your doctor, and check that the label indicates D3.

My brother was diagnosed with fibromyalgia by an M.D. He had it for years. I saw this about Vitamin D, and he started taking 2000 IU per day as a fibromyalgia treatment. His pain is gone. However, he is also taking another supplement that could also be responsible for his improvement. See below.

Calcium
My brother also started taking a special, patented form of calcium called EZorb, which claims to help fibromyalgia, as a fibromyalgia treatment. I am taking it as a pinched nerve treatment, which it claims to help also, and I do seem to be better. I will take it for six months, since one testimonial said it took that long, and then I will report my results on the pinched nerve treatment page. Find more about EZorb.

Usually, you need to take magnesium with calcium to help your body absorb the calcium, but the EZorb people claim that's not necessary with their product. Your body does need magnesium, though. Check out the Health Benefits Of Magnesium.

Anyway, my brother is taking both EZorb, which is expensive, and Vitamin D, which is cheap as dirt, for fibromyalgia treatments and his pain is gone. When he stops taking one or the other, I'll let you know which one it is that worked.
